Njoki Wamae MBACP

Hello, my name is Njoki; I provide psychotherapy, Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), parenting support and training. I take an integrative approach to my therapy work. This means that I draw on elements of different therapeutic approaches to suit each client’s unique needs. My work is further informed by polyvagal theory; the science of feeling safe enough to engage with life more fully.

My work is strongly rooted in building a safe therapeutic relationship.  Once we feel safe in ourselves, our relationships and our environment, defences are broken down and we are more open and able to engage with life in a healthier way.

I work with adults and young adults who have these concerns:

  • Constant worrying
  • Chronic low mood and fatigue
  • Cultural issues
  • Eating disorders
  • Difficulties around living with HIV
  • Parenting difficulties
  • Relationship difficulties

Alongside therapy work I teach psychology and counselling at the Open University.  I also train teachers and other school professionals in children’s social and emotional development. This programme seeks to equip professionals with the requisite knowledge, skills and attitude to help children regulate their own emotional states.

My professional qualifications include

  • Counselling and Psychotherapy (MA Durham University)
  • Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
  • Childhood social and emotional development
  • Secondary school teaching
  • Eating Disorders

Who do I work with?

  • Psychological therapy – young adults and adults
  • SSP – children (age 3 and above), young adults & adults
  • Parenting support – parents

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy BACP.  Membership Number 77894.
